Segundo datos do IGE, tiña 4.682 habitantes no ano 2025, dos que 2.425 eran mulleres e 2.257 homes, o que representa un descenso respecto ó ano 2016, cando tiña 4.848 veciños. O seu xentilicio (véxase no Galizionario) é «meisiños - meisense». A capital municipal localízase no lugar do Mosteiro, da parroquia de San Vicenzo de Nogueira.
