Santa María de Gándara é unha parroquia que se localiza no norte do concello de Zas na comarca da Terra de Soneira. Segundo o padrón municipal de 2004 tiña 503 habitantes (269 homes e 234 mulleres) distribuídos en 8 entidades de poboación, o que supón unha diminución en relación ao ano 1999 cando tiña 545 habitantes. Segundo o IGE, no 2018 a súa poboación descendera ata os 365 habitantes, sendo 182 homes e 183 mulleres.
